Wappinger Celebrates Grand Reopening of Renovated and Expanded Senior Center
Wappinger, NY — The Town of Wappinger is proud to announce the grand reopening of the newly renovated and expanded Senior Center at Wappinger Town Hall, marking a significant investment in services and programming for the Town’s growing senior community.
Made possible through a $75,000 grant secured from Dutchess County Government, the project allowed the Town to reimagine and modernize the Senior Center space to better serve residents. Improvements include a new kitchen, updated restrooms, new flooring, enhanced lighting, and an expanded footprint designed to better accommodate programming and community engagement.
The reopening reflects the continued growth of the Town’s senior programming. What was once a single-room program has grown into multiple locations across the Town, with active membership increasing from 130 senior residents to 316 today.
Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini stated,
“When I first took office, our senior program had about 130 members — today, we are proud to serve more than 300 active members with more programming, more activities, and more opportunities for connection than ever before. That growth has allowed us to establish a dedicated Division of Senior Enrichment, expanding programs across multiple locations throughout our Town. This newly renovated Senior Center — with its updated kitchen, bathrooms, flooring, lighting, furnishings, and expanded space — reflects our continued investment in our senior community. As we celebrate this reopening and proclaim today ‘Senior Enrichment Day in the Town of Wappinger,’ we are proud that Wappinger is becoming one of the most welcoming and senior-friendly communities anywhere in the Hudson Valley.”4th Ward Councilman Al Casella added,
“The Grand Re-Opening of our Senior Center was a culmination of the County and the Wappinger Town Board working together. We received a $75k grant from the county and we completely changed the dynamics of our senior center to better serve our growing senior community. This is something the Town Board is very proud of and will continue to re-visit. We expanded our town services as we want this to be a place where people want to come and live. This was a great effort by our Buildings and Grounds team as well as our Recreation Team to make this happen and I thank them for their efforts. I hope all seniors get the opportunity to enjoy the upgraded facility.”
The Town extends its sincere appreciation to the dedicated Town of Wappinger workforce, especially the Buildings & Grounds Department for their craftsmanship and hard work in completing the renovations, and the Parks & Recreation Department for their continued commitment to creating meaningful and engaging programming for Wappinger’s senior community.
Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini welcomed members of the community alongside Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino, Deputy Supervisor Lisa Paoloni, Senior Councilman William H. Beale, Councilman Christopher Phillips, Councilman Al Casella, County Legislators Robert Faust and Kevin Giles, former Legislator Lynne Miele-Versaci, and former Town Supervisors Connie Smith and Barbara Gutzler to the grand reopening of the newly renovated, expanded, and improved Senior Center at Wappinger Town Hall. Supervisor Cavaccini also welcomed representatives from Congressman Pat Ryan’s office and Senator Rob Rolison’s office!
These improvements reflect this Administration and Town Board’s ongoing commitment to expanding services and ensuring that Wappinger remains a place where residents of all ages can live, connect, and thrive.
