Town of Wappinger

Dutchess County has been cleared to begin Phase 4 of the state's re-opening process tomorrow, July 7th. Low-risk indoor and outdoor arts and entertainment (indoor museums, historical sites, aquariums, etc.) are allowed in Phase 4, as is media and film production, and the state has provided guidance on in-person higher education. Social gathering limits also increase from 25 to 50 as we enter Phase 4. The state has not provided guidance on when shopping malls, gyms, and theaters may open.

Due to a decision by a federal judge, the capacity restrictions planned for houses of worship in Phase 3 (25%) and Phase 4 (33%) are no longer applicable. New York State has confirmed that their interpretation of the Judge’s injunction is that there are no size/capacity limitations on outdoor religious gathering so long as proper social distancing and other protective measures are in place. Furthermore, capacity limitations for indoor religious activities must be equal to that of non-essential businesses or 50% currently

On this date 145 years ago, in 1875, the Town of Wappinger was officially created. Residents of what was then the northern Town of Fishkill petitioned the State to create its own separate Town. Wappinger, the youngest town in the county has seen much growth, heroism, and success!
