Fire Inspector & Bureau of Fire Prevention

Fire Inspector J. Howard Prager is responsible for all Fire Safety inspections on all Commercial occupancies in the Town of Wappinger as well as all Multiple Dwelling units including Apartments, Townhouses, and Condominiums, which are residential structures housing three or more units. These inspections include but are not limited to all safety issues as outlined in both the New York State Building and Fire Code. All occupancies outlined are required to be inspected for compliance annually as required in Part 1203 for the administration of the Uniform Fire Prevention Code.

The Fire Inspector also issues Operational Permits, and Place of Public Assembly permits, which includes promotional events and inspections for compliance to all code related issues.

The Fire Prevention Bureau was formed in 1982 and is comprised of two members of each Fire District and Company within the Town of Wappinger. This committee meets monthly with the Fire Inspector to review site plans for commercial projects concerning fire company access and safety issues. These concerns are related to the Town of Wappinger Planning Board during the review of these types of projects including subdivisions.

A: No the NYS Fire Code prohibits open flame cooking devises in ALL multiple Family dwellings.
