Watch the Wappinger Town Memorial Day Ceremony Featuring Former Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson

Supervisor Richard L. Thurston, the Wappinger Town Board, and the Department of Parks & Recreation invite you to attend our annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Brexel-Schlathaus Park located at the corner of All Angels Hill and Myers Corners roads. The Ceremony will be on Monday, May 31, 2021 starting at 2 PM. The Town of Wappinger is proud to host this year’s event live and in person to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Veterans from our community will be represented in the laying of the wreaths ceremony, a changing of the Town of Wappinger War Monument flag by the New Hackensack Fire Company, and other heart felt tributes will be made for our fallen service men and women. The Town is honored to have the Hudson Valley Council BSA Band return to play patriotic tunes to accompany our ceremony. This year’s keynote speaker is former United States Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson. Mr. Johnson is a class of 1975 Roy C. Ketcham High School graduate and is excited to return to the Wappinger area.

Village of Wappingers Falls Memorial Day Ceremony – The Village of Wappingers Falls and American Legion Post 427 will be hosting their Ceremony on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, 2021  at 10:00 am. The ceremony will be located at Mesier Park, East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. Join the Village, American Legion, & VFW for the Memorial Day Services which will also include honoring WW II Vet Anthony Pantaleo.

 

Dutchess County Memorial Day Convoy – Starting at the Dutchess County Veterans Memorial in the Town of Poughkeepsie, a convoy of law enforcement and military vehicles will travel throughout Dutchess County communities; the convoy will travel throughout the county, beginning at 11:30 a.m. A map of the convoy’s routes is available online. Residents should be aware the actual route may vary slightly on the day of the event as circumstances dictate in each municipality. It is anticipated that the convoy will actually pass through the Town of Wappinger three times between 11:45am and 1:00pm.

 

Playing of Taps – Wappinger resident Dani Masterson will honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in a 24-hour tribute in Mesier Park in the village of Wappingers Falls.  Dani is National Bugler for the Spirit of 45 and New York State Director of Bugles Across America. She will lead the Sounding of TAPS in a 24-hour tribute for our Veterans on Sunday, May 30th 2021 through May 31st 2021, Memorial Day. Starting at 3pm on the 30th Dani will start sounding those 24 notes every hour and continue for the following 24 hours to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The memorial concludes at the “National Moment of Remembrance” at 3pm on Memorial Day. The National Moment of Remembrance encourages all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day for a minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in service to the nation.
