***Town of Wappinger and Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls Announce Major Capital Improvements to Town War Memorial at Brexel-Schlathaus Park***
Wappinger, NY – The Town of Wappinger is proud to announce a landmark partnership with the Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls, marking the first collaboration between the two organizations in over 30 years. This renewed alliance brings together local government and civic leadership to undertake a significant capital project aimed at improving the quality of life for residents and enhancing the community for generations to come.
At the heart of this collaboration is the long-overdue renovation of the Town of Wappinger War Memorial, located at Brexel-Schlathaus Park. The memorial, a solemn tribute to the Town’s brave veterans who served and sacrificed in defense of our nation, will undergo its first major capital improvements in over three decades. Planned improvements include the removal of the deteriorating and sinking patio base, installation of a modern drainage system, re-leveling of the area, and the placement of new landscape patio bricks to ensure long-term durability and aesthetic appeal.
This restoration project is funded in part by the Town of Wappinger War Memorial Trust, established by Bill and Helen Parsons to preserve the integrity and dignity of the memorial site. These improvements will ensure that the War Memorial continues to serve as a respectful and inspiring space for reflection, remembrance, and community gatherings—especially during annual commemorative events like Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
The partnership highlights a mutual dedication to service, community growth, and civic pride. Although full project details will be revealed in the weeks ahead, both the Town and the Rotary Club stress the initiative’s potential to create lasting, positive change.
“This collaboration is not only historic – but it is a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when community-minded organizations come together with a common purpose,” said Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini. “We are grateful to the Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls for their vision and dedication as well as to my colleagues on the Town Board for their support. We look forward to continuing to work closely with their leadership to complete this momentous project.”
Todd Bowen, President of the Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls, joined the Supervisor in championing this project. “This initiative marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our community”, said Todd. “By combining the Rotary’s legacy of service with the Town’s strong commitment to progress, we are creating something truly meaningful. We are proud to stand alongside the Town in this partnership and look forward to the impact this project will have for generations to come.”
