Wappinger Town to Host Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Ceremony on March 29 at Wappinger Town Hall

Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Ceremony

Wappinger, NY – Supervisor Richard L. Thurston and the Wappinger Town Board, in partnership with the Wappinger Veterans Advisory Group, will honor the veterans of the Vietnam War on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at 1:00pm on the Memorial Plaza in front of Wappinger Town Hall in observance of National Vietnam War Veterans Day.

On March 29, 1973, the United States military command in Vietnam was disestablished one day after combat troops left the country. In 2017, Congress established five objectives for this day. With the primary goal to thank and honor our Vietnam War veterans and their families, for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the United States. Thousands of organizations have joined in the noble mission of honoring our 6.2 million veterans, living at home and abroad. Also honored are the 9 million families of all who served. One retired US Army Colonel remarked, “We had no expectations but to serve where duty called us.  We asked for no reward except a nation’s thanks.”

During the ceremony, publicly and individually, veterans of the Vietnam War are being presented with the Vietnam Veteran Lapel pin, a lasting memento of the Nation’s and our Town’s appreciation.

During the upcoming March 14, 2021 Regular Meeting of the Wappinger Town Board, it is anticipated that the Town Board will adopt  Resolution-2022-57, A Proclamation Recognizing March 29, 2022 as Vietnam War Veterans Day

All residents and veterans are invited and encouraged to attend the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Ceremony on Tuesday, March 29 at 1:00pm at Wappinger Town Hall, 20 Middlebush Road, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
